The Kardashev Scale: Proposed in 1964 by Russian astronomer Nikolai Kardashev to categorize the level of technological advancement of civilizations extant, or indeed now extinct, in the Universe.

Humankind are classified as a Type 0 civilization on the scale: utilizing only the energy resources available here on Earth...perhaps in one or two centuries time we will be able to harness all the power of our sun & progress to Type I. But Kardashev also proposes Type II & III civilizations - races infinitely more advanced than ourselves - with Star Lifting technologies & the ability to create astronomical megastructures such as Alderson Disks to harness the power of entire suns.

Perhaps we have already been contacted by such advanced civilizations? Is the mysterious Black Knight Satellite such proof - kept secret from the wider public by our own governments ? Or are they listening - hoping, or perhaps fearing, the discovery of traces of a distant beacon from a hitherto unknown civilization somewhere out there in the wider cosmos....

‘Acolytes’ is by far my favourite track on this release. It reminds me of an experimental Four Tet mixed with some Jon Hopkins. There is use of modern circuits, acid lines and tape echo with swooning crescendos and diminuendos across the board. I haven’t previously heard anything from Thomas Ragsdale before but from now on I will be keeping my ear to the ground for any future releases. I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Under Dwellers.
